چکیده

The Baltic Sea is a unique and sensitive brackish-water ecosystem vulnerable to damage from shipping activities. Despite high levels of maritime safety in the area, there continued risk oil spills associated harmful environmental impacts. Achieving common situational awareness between spill response decision makers other actors, such as merchant vessel Vessel Traffic Service center operators, an important step minimizing detrimental effects. This paper presents Next-Generation Smart Response Web (NG-SRW), web-based application aid making concerning response. tool aims provide, dynamically interactively, relevant information on spills. By integrating analysis visualization dynamic features with sensitivity elements value human uses, benefits potential actions can be compared, helping develop appropriate strategy. process simulation enables authorities judge better complexity behavior systems processes behind impact assessment thereby control combat action.

The FireGrid project aims to harness the potential of advanced forms of computation to support the response to large-scale emergencies (with an initial focus on the response to fires in the built environment). Computational models of physical phenomena are deployed on High Performance Computing (HPC) resources to interpret live sensor data from an emergency in real-time – or, in the case of pre...

Probabilistic Risk Assessment and Decision Support Tools for the Evaluation of Oil Transport in the Gulf of Finland, North-Eastern Baltic Sea

The maritime traffic in the Gulf of Finland (GoF), North-eastern Baltic Sea, is predicted to rapidly grow in the near future, which increases the environmental risks through both direct environmental effects and by increasing the risk of severe oil accident. A multidisciplinary group of researchers has developed a prototype of risk assessment and decision support model, applying Bayesian Networ...

Modeling the Baltic Sea eutrophication in a decision support system.

SANBALTS (Simple As Necessary Baltic Long-Term Large-Scale) is a model of the coupled nitrogen and phosphorus cycles. This model has been developed as an integral part of the decision support system Marine Research on Eutrophication's Nest with the overall aim to evaluate management options for reducing Baltic Sea eutrophication. Simulated nutrient and oxygen concentrations as well as transport...
